Functional Adulting While Neurodivergent

A community gathering space where you belong.

A brief word about Functional Adulting:

If you know me, then you know when I say Functional Adulting

it has nothing to do with labels like “high functioning” or “low functioning.”

Those labels are useless and unhelpful at best.

I’m talking about living one’s best life, or functioning,

as an adult, with whatever accommodations, strategies, and tips

make life better for you.

Who is FAWN for?

This is for you if you identify as neurodivergent and you want to connect with an understanding and supportive community to share life hacks as you navigate adulting in a neuro-majority world.

Why is a community space like FAWN so important?

It’s not uncommon for neurodivergent people to feel alone or different from those around them. FAWN is a safe community for like-minded ND folk to gather and share their triumphs, challenges, and wisdom.

My intentions in gathering together as a community are to:

  1. Connect people who truly understand each other.
  2. Provide a safe space for ND folk to share challenges and wisdom.
  3. Share life hacks for adulting, prioritizing self-care, and issues around unmasking.

Meet Wendy

Hi, I’m Wendela Whitcomb Marsh, but you can call me Wendy.

I loved my 40-year career in special education and psychology. Many of those years were devoted to assessing young children for eligibility for autism services in my county office of education. Along the way I earned my master’s degree in school psychology, became a Licensed Educational Psychologist, and completed a Religious Studies Doctorate in pastoral counseling, specializing in autism.

After I retired in 2016, I became an author with many published books including Recognizing Autism in Women and Girls, and the five-book series, Adulting While Autistic. I also founded a nationwide group practice, Adult Autism Assessment & Services, where my team of professionals diagnose autism and ADHD and provide counseling and life coaching services.

Although I’m not autistic myself, my late husband, two of our three children, and many of the clinicians I hired in my practice were all diagnosed as autistic later in life, as adults. These people are dear to my heart. I understand how difficult it can be to find colleagues who really understand neurodiversity affirmation, rather than just giving it lip service. I’m here to facilitate these professional connections. If you’re like most of us as we continue to learn about the ND community, you probably have questions, and I’m here for you. I may not have all the answers, but I’ll bet someone in the community does. Let’s pool our wisdom.

The thing about this space that I find so beautiful is the opportunity to bring together ND folk from all over, to connect with each other, and to share ideas that I hope will make your life easier and happier. Although I will be there for you, I think that the connections community members will make among yourselves will be the most valuable.

I’m so excited to share this journey with you and support you in any way I can!

FAQ

What if I want to cancel my membership?

No problem. When it’s time for you to leave, I will not try to talk you out of it. You may cancel at any time.

What will I be asked to do as a participant?

You do not have to participate any more than you feel comfortable with. If you want to come to the Zoom with your camera and mic off and just listen, you are welcome! If you want to share, that’s great too, but we will never call on you or pressure you to participate. This is a safe space for everyone to be comfortable with their own level of participation.

What if I have questions before joining?

Email me at Info@WendelaWhitcombMarsh.com

What if I have questions while I’m in the membership?

You may either email me at info@WendelaWhitcombMarsh.com or DM me or reach out to me on our FB group page.

Will the sessions be recorded?

No, we will not record the sessions because of confidentiality. I want everyone to feel safe sharing, and many people are uncomfortable knowing that they are being recorded. I will always send a summary email so if you miss a session, you’ll know what we discussed.

Why is this membership priced so low?

I know many ND folk are underemployed and underpaid. I want to make this available for about the cost of a cup of coffee per month.

What if I can’t afford it?

If you feel strongly that you want to be in the FAWN group but you cannot afford the cost, and you don’t have a support system that could lend you the money, email me at Info@WendelaWhitcombMarsh.com.
