Jacob blew out the candles and his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all cheered. Nineteen years old, about to graduate from high school. He’d had quite a year, and learned a lot.
He’d improved his relationship with his parents and people at school by learning more about his autism and how it affected his communication, social life, and sensory stuff.
He used his bicycle to get around town and increase his independence, as well as getting good exercise and enjoying nature along the way.
He started an Eco-Club at school with kids who shared his interest in saving the planet, and now he had guys to hang out with at lunch and meet up with on weekends.
He went to prom with Hannah, and they planned to see each other over the summer.
He even had a part-time job, which he would keep when he started at the community college in the fall.
Jacob wasn’t sure yet exactly where he was going in life, but he knew he was on the right path and that he could handle whatever life sent his way. It was going to be another great year!
